According to Greek Mythology, a phoenix is a colorful bird that would live for a long time and could also be regenerated or reborn from it's own ashes. Some says it simply dies and decomposes before being reborn. But others claim that it would combust and die wrapped in flames.

The ancient fire bird believed to have risen from it's own ashes and could prepare it's own funeral. From it's own ashes a phoenix rises renewed and reborn. The phoenix symbolizes renewal. Something new is created after something is destroyed or has come to an end.

Why am I telling you about this mythical bird? Well, because my children called me the "Phoenix" when I celebrated my 58th birthday 2 years after my ischemic stroke. It's our favorite Xmen movie when the Phoenix died and surprisingly was being reborn and rose up again.

My children said I am like the "Phoenix" because I died and was being reborn and I rise up again after my stroke. When they told me that I started to cry. I was so elated and my heart was overwhelmed with pride and joy. My children saw how hard I fought to stay alive. They saw that I did not give up and like a "phoenix" I died, was being born again and I rise up renewed after being destroyed by stroke. And that was my greatest reward for all the hard work that I have to do to fight and survive everyday for the past 3 years.

In my children's eyes, I am their superhero. I am the "Phoenix" and that's something that I will remember in my heart everyday and use it as my motivation to keep fighting and never give up. I know I am blessed to have a husband and 2 beautiful children who support me and love me for who I am now. My children are my motivation to live and keep fighting. But I also know that not everyone's journey is like mine. But whatever is the circumstances find someone or something that gives you motivation to live and fight. If you can't find it from someone or something, then find it in yourself! Do it for you.

Life can be hard and difficult but there's always hope in rising again renewed and improved even after being destroyed by stroke. Choose HOPE and rise up from the ashes like a Phoenix.

My motivation to stay strong..my son

My motivation to keep fighting...my son

My motivation not to give up hope...my husband

So never give up! Keep fighting and keep pushing forward stroke survivors. Rise from the asses like a phoenix.
